Wise County Public Schools serves 5,500 students in grades PK-12. WCPS ranked 5th among VA schools in student achievement for the 2017-2018 school year.
Wise County Christian School is a private/Christian school located near the airport in Wise, Virginia. Established in 1978, we have over 40 years of experience in providing biblical-based education in classrooms for each grade level from Pre-K through Grade 12. We are an ACSI member school and accredited through the National Association of Private Schools. We offer both standard and advanced diplomas, and recipients find themselves well-prepared for college. Many of our graduates have pursued higher education and are currently serving as doctors, teachers, pastors, accountants and more.
The WCCS campus also includes WCCS Preschool Academy, a program for two- and three-year-old students. The Preschool Academy fosters early childhood development in a caring Christian atmosphere while preparing the youngest for Pre-K.
Mountain Empire Community College is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System that has coursework and associates degrees designed to prepare students for careers in manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and business with the option of going on to 4-year institutions to obtain a bachelor’s degree. MECC is also home to the Center for Workforce and Innovation of Appalachia, a regional leader in workforce development and training.
The University of Virginia’s College at Wise is a public liberal arts college that offers areas of study that span from Accounting to Theater. UVA Wise is one of the pillars of the region that play a major role in supporting existing industries and promoting both community and economic development. As the only branch of the University of Virginia, UVA Wise is located in the vibrant community of Wise, nestled amid the scenic Appalachian Mountains in southwest Virginia. The 396-acre campus is located 60 minutes from the Tri-Cities of Tennessee and Virginia. UVA Wise offers 33 majors, 39 minors, and 24 teaching licensures. UVA Wise offers numerous degree programs, including Bachelor of Arts (BA), Bachelor of Science (BS), and Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). In addition to a range of bachelor’s degree programs, UVA Wise also offers a number of esteemed pre-professional study tracks, in pre-engineering, pre-forestry, pre-medicine/dentistry/veterinary, pre-pharmacy, and pre-physical therapy.
