In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare stages the workings of love as residents of Athens mix with fairies from a local forest with comic results. In the city, Theseus, Duke of Athens, is to marry Hippolyta, queen of the Amazons. Bottom the weaver and his friends rehearse in the woods a play they hope to stage for the wedding celebrations.

In the woods outside Theseus’s Athens, two young men and two young women sort themselves out into couples—but not before they form first one love triangle, and then another. The four run through the forest pursuing each other while Puck the fairy helps his master play a trick on the fairy queen.

Revel in a story of order and disorder, reality and appearance, and love and marriage in one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays.
